AfterSchool Indy: Report Card 2016-2017
During the 2016-17 school year, Classical Music Indy brought free music education to 1,334 kids through our AfterSchool Indy program.
Students learned how to read music by explaining the parts of a musical staff.
Students learned to write music through music notation and our musicians performing their compositions.
Students had a deeper connection with music by writing stories and drawing art based on classical compositions.
We had jam sessions where students learned to play rhythms on drums.
We demonstrated the connections between music and other subjects – Math, Language Arts, History, Visual Art, and Science.
And with our youngest preschool students, we showed them how orchestral instruments work and what makes each instrument unique.
The professional musicians that perform for AfterSchool Indy played music ranging from Baroque to Classical to Romantic to Modern.
Thanks to our partners Christel House Academy West, Christamore House, Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Head Start for a great year. We already can’t wait for next school year!
A special thank you to Rhythm! Discovery Center for letting us borrow their drums for AfterSchool Indy.
