NEW CLASSICAL – NOW HEAR THIS

April 24, 2023

New Classical Featured Playlist – 04/24/23 – 05/07/23

In this week’s playlist, we feature violinist and conductor Scott Yoo in honor of the 4th season of Now Hear This! Scott is the Host and Executive Producer of the program. Now Hear This is a primetime PBS miniseries now filming its 5th season that brings the greatest music ever written to millions of viewers, with modern storytelling that captivates. Now Hear This opens the world of classical music to new audiences while giving existing fans new ways to love their music. The program is presented by Great Performances, celebrating its 50th season on PBS, and this year begins international distribution. It was created by Emmy-winning producer/director/writer Harry Lynch. With a deep background in music and on-location filmmaking, he combines storytelling, travel, and spectacular music performances to create a new, highly accessible format.

The 4th season premiered this month in April with Scott traveling around the world learning about composers, Astor Piazzolla, Robert Schumann, Andy Akiho, and ending with Isaac Albéniz. The final episode Albéniz: Portraits of Spain, airs on April 28th! Scott is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Mexico City Philharmonic and the Music Director of Festival Mozaic. He is the Conductor of the Colorado College Music Festival, and the founder of the Medellín Festicámara, a chamber music program that brings together world-class artists with underprivileged young musicians. We’ll hear Scott talk with host Salvador about the 4th season, the music, composers, and Scott’s career all when you connect to Classical Music Indy Streaming’s New Classical channel.

NEW CLASSICAL – RANDALL GOOSBY

Signed exclusively to Decca Classics in 2020 at the age of 24, American violinist Randall Goosby is acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside his determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, as well as bringing the music of under-represented composers to light. Goosby made his debut with the Jacksonville Symphony at age nine. At age 13, he performed with the New York Philharmonic on a Young People’s Concert at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and became the youngest recipient ever to win the Sphinx Concerto Competition.
