Classical Revolution: Casual Classical Night

Eric Salazar, clarinet, and Joshua Thompson, piano

Where can you go to hear classical music jam sessions? On the first Tuesday of every month, freelance musicians and members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra play at the Chatterbox Jazz Club in the evening.

This free show starts at 8pm and often goes until midnight as the musicians play the night away with string quartets, solo pieces, and more.

The environment is informal. Bar-goers are free to drink and chat as they listen. Classical Revolution is also an opportunity for the musicians to let their hair down and play their favorites… Or test out a new work.

C-Rev is a fun time to hear what’s going on in the classical music world here in Indianapolis. A melting pot of players, composers and fans come together to hear classical music in a low-key, chill environment. It is a great opportunity to get an idea of the wonderful artists/musicians that live in our city.”
-Zachary DePue, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, The Ford-West Chair

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra musicians Anne Duthie McCafferty, cello, and Mark Ortwein, bassoon.

The best part of Classical Revolution is bringing the music we love to an intimate, untraditional space and interacting with whomever shows up, whether accidental or intentional. It gives the participating musicians an inviting and informal space to play an old favorite or introduce something new, and an audience eager to hear it. Playing at the Chatterbox lets the patrons know that there is no specific place for what we do and that we do it because we love the music, performing it with colleagues, and sharing the experience with friends.”
-Anne Duthie McCafferty, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Cellist, The Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Rudesill Chair

Classical Revolution Regulars: Sherry Hong, Eugenio Urrutia-Borlando, Anne Duthie McCafferty, Nancy Agres, Patrick Dalton-Holmes, and Kathy Hershberger

Join us every first Tuesday of the month at the Chatterbox Jazz Club at 8pm. Upcoming dates: September 5, October 3, November 7, and December 5. Enjoy a beer with your Beethoven!

Musical Innovation at the University of Maryland

Orchestra musicians are often stuck in a rut when it comes to style of performances and venue. We spoke with James Ross, Director of Orchestral Activities and Professor of Conducting at the University of Maryland, about how his university is trying to change their approach to performing. Read below to learn about some of the innovations they are implementing at the University of Maryland.
