NEW CLASSICAL – RACHEL PORTMAN

February 14, 2022

New Classical Featured Artist – 02/14/22 – 02/27/22

In this week’s playlist, we bring you the music of English composer, Rachel Portman. If you don’t know her by name, you might already know her by her music. Portman is an award-winning film composer and has scored for films like Race,  The Cider House Rules, and A Dog’s Purpose just to name a few. Portman shattered the glass ceiling with her score for the 1996 film, Emma, and became the first woman ever to win an Oscar for best original score. Although Portman mostly writes for film, she has also written in other genres and has added an opera, a musical, and even an oratorio to her discography. More recently in 2020, she released an album of works for piano, violin, and cello entitled, ask the river.

Connect with Classical Music Indy Streaming’s New Classical channel as we explore these new instrumental works by Rachel Portman and much more.
