NEW CLASSICAL – NEW LONDON CHAMBER ENSEMBLE

July 18, 2022

New Classical Featured Artist – 07/18/22 – 07/31/22

This week’s featured artist is the New London Chamber Ensemble. For over two decades the NLCE has challenged traditional ideas of chamber music with their innovative programs combining classic repertoire with semi-staged works incorporating drama, speech and action. They are passionately dedicated to new music, and regularly commissions new works; composers include Ailis Ni Riain for a work featuring Dame Evelyn Glennie, John Woolrich, Philip Cashian and Martin Butler, as well as arrangements from Julian Philips and Sally Beamish. The NLCE is also committed to musical outreach and education. They are ‘Ensemble in Residence’ to the National Youth Chamber Orchestra, and give masterclasses and coaching for music colleges, schools and youth music groups.

We’ll be hearing music from their newly released album, WINDSWEPT VOL. II, from Navona Records. The seven composers’ works on the album soar with modern flair, making use of various instrumental textures and irregular meters with jazz-driven influences sprouting from classical roots. Dynamic displays of dexterity and luscious interplay between performers burst with refined energy in this recording, uplifting listeners into a satisfying and equally enticing atmosphere.

Tune in to Classical Music Indy’s New Classical channel to get swept off your feet with these fantastic performances by the NLCE, and much more.
