NEW CLASSICAL – MARK HETZLER

January 17, 2022

New Classical Featured Artist – 01/17/22 – 01/30/22

In this week’s playlist, we bring you performances by trombonist, Mark Hetzler.  He was the former Principal Trombonist of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra, as well as the Florida Orchestra, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra. Since moving to Madison, WI in 2004, Mark has performed often with the Minnesota Orchestra. He is currently the Professor of Trombone at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as a member of the Wisconsin Brass Quintet.

Mark is also a recording artist and has released 12 CDs through the Summit Records label. One interesting fact about Mark is that he’s a member of the experimental rock band, Mr. Chair, where he plays his trombone while hooked up to an effects pedalboard, giving it an electric trombone feel. We’ll hear both the classical and electric-acoustic sounds of Mark Hetzler in this playlist. Don’t miss out! Connect with Classical Music Indy’s New Classical channel.

LOCAL CLASSICAL – BLACK MUSIC MONTH

In this week’s playlist, we celebrate Black Music Month which takes place in June. It was created by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 to honor and celebrate Black artists’ contributions to music. We’ll be honoring the late Herman Whitfield III, an Indianapolis native who was a gifted pianist and composer. We’ll also hear performances of artists who have been featured in season four of Classical Music Indy’s podcast, Melanated Moments in Classical Music.
