March is Youth in Art month, a program designed to emphasize the value of art education for all children. To celebrate, streaming this week features recordings made by youth ensembles and universities on three different continents.
You’ll hear a variety of orchestras, choirs, and wind bands, including the local Indianapolis Children’s Choir and NOTUS, formerly the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the only university-based vocal group in the United States exclusively dedicated to the study and performance of vocal and choral repertoire written after 1900.
The playlist includes commissions from the living composers Sally Beamish, Joel Puckett, Steven Bryant and more, as well as some slightly older works by Howard Hanson, Roy Harris, and Carlos Chavez. These recordings also feature renowned soloists, Anthony McGill, Demarre Mcgill, Michelle Cann, Demondrae Thurman, and others. You won’t want to miss hearing these extraordinary young musicians this week!
