LOCAL CLASSICAL – RYAN OLIVIER

December 26, 2022

Local Classical Featured Artist – 12/26/22 – 01/08/23

In this week’s playlist, we feature composer and multimedia artist, Ryan Olivier. Over the years he has been fortunate to work with talented performers such as the Relâche Ensemble, the Euclid Quartet, Ensemble Concept/21, and the Cygnus Ensemble who have performed his works across the United States. In addition to his concert works, his various interests have led him to work with a wide array of media including electronics, video, and dance. Ryan continues to compose for both traditional concert ensembles and fixed media, but his current focus is the real-time incorporation of visualized electronic music with live performers. He has presented these works in Virginia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, New York, Florida, Utah, Illinois, and Indiana.

Ryan is an Assistant Professor of Music at Indiana University South Bend, where he directs the electronic ensemble, the Audio-Visual Collective, and teaches courses in music composition, music theory, and music technology. Previously Ryan taught at Temple University and St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition from Loyola University New Orleans as well as a doctorate from Temple University. We’ll hear Ryan discuss working as a multimedia artist, electronic music, and more in this playlist. Connect with Classical Music Indy Streaming’s Local Classical channel to hear works by/selected Ryan Olivier and much more.

NEW CLASSICAL – ANNA CLYNE

As Women’s History Month begins, we are highlighting women musicians, composers, and conductors of the past and present.  In this week’s playlist, we are featuring London-born composer Anna Clyne. Anna Clyne is a GRAMMY-nominated composer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music. Described as a “composer of uncommon gifts and unusual methods” in a New York Times profile and as “fearless” by NPR, Clyne’s work often includes collaborations with cutting-edge choreographers, visual artists, filmmakers, and musicians. From 2010–2015, Clyne served as a Mead Composer-in-Residence for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
