LOCAL CLASSICAL – MUSIC AND NATURE

April 18, 2022

Local Classical Featured Playlist – 04/18/22 – 05/01/22

In this week’s playlist, we bring you works that have a connection to the natural world. Elizabeth Frickey who has served as a contributor and ecomusicology intern for Classical Music Indy since 2021 helped curate this playlist, as well. Elizabeth sums up ecomusicology as, “[…] an official sense is an academic subfield that deals in the intersections of music, sound, culture, and environment. As one might imagine, this opens up not only worlds of possibilities for scholarship, but also new avenues for listening to music. Whether we’re listening to music that draws direct inspiration from nature or not, ecomusicology encourages us to question how we listen to sounds even in our everyday environments.” She wrote a full blog on this subject, which you can find here.

There are many classical works that have a connection to the natural world, and we’ll explore several in this playlist. Connect with Classical Music Indy’s Local Classical channel for our Music and Nature playlist.
