LOCAL CLASSICAL – JON NOWORYTA

September 4, 2023

Local Classical Featured Artist – 09/04/23 – 09/17/23

This week’s playlist highlights the Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands, Instrumental Activities, and Educational Outreach at the University of Indianapolis, Jon Noworyta! It is in honor of National Arts in Education Week which runs from September 10 – 16. National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education. Passed by Congress in 2010 through House Resolution 275, the celebration is designated to bring attention to this cause for elected officials and educational decision-makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students.

To celebrate we’ll hear Dr. Jon Noworyta speak about his background and his experience of being an arts educator. He’ll also act as a ‘guest curator’ for this playlist and you will hear some great Wind Repertoire he selected. He is a twenty-one-year veteran public school music educator who taught high school in Naperville and Wheaton, IL. Ensembles under his direction have performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Music for All National Festival, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall. In the pageantry arts, Dr. Noworyta is the former drum major of the Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps of Rochester, NY. He conducted the 2022 INpact Band at DCI World Championship finals, a group he led again this year.
