In this week’s playlist, we feature recordings by Brazilian classical guitarist Plínio Fernandes! From São Paulo, Brazil, Plínio was born into a family of musicians, he received his first guitar lessons from his father. At the age of twelve, after winning a couple of national youth guitar competitions, Plínio played as guest soloist with the Campo Grande Symphony Orchestra, performing the Concerto in D by Vivaldi. He continued his musical education in São Paulo, where he took private lessons with Henrique Pinto and Fabio Zanon.
From 2011-2014 he received a full scholarship to attend the International Campos do Jordao Winter Festival, the biggest festival in Latin America and during that period he gave recitals and performed in chamber concerts in around 35 cities throughout Brazil and Chile. Over the years he has attended masterclasses by world-renowned guitarists such as Eduardo Fernandez, Jorge Caballero, Marcelo Kayath, Leo Brouwer and Carlos Barbosa Lima. Encouraged by his family and teachers he moved to London to pursue a career as a concert musician. From 2014 to 2020 he studied at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of Prof. Michael Lewin, Steve Goss, Fábio Zanon and David Russell, with full scholarship funded by the Brazilian Ministery of Education, where he completed his studies both as an undergraduate and Master’s student.
Plinio has a true passion for music education and has recently being invited to join the London Music Masters charity as an ambassador and be involved with performing, teaching and guiding young musicians in schools, as well as serving as an inspiration to the students through being a young artist at the beginning of his international career.
