New Classical Featured Music – Native American Heritage Playlist
Since 1990, November has been established as National Native American Heritage Month. America has always had a mosaic of cultures dating back thousands of years to the original inhabitants of the land. This week on Classical Music Indy Streaming’s New Classical channel, we feature music by two Native Americans, R. Carlos Nakai, and Brent Michael Davids.
R. Carlos Nakai is of Navajo-Ute heritage. He is originally trained in classical trumpet and music theory. When he was young, he was given a wood flute as a gift and was curious to see what he could do with it. Nakai has become a lead performer in Native American flute and has released more than 50 albums in his career.
Brent Michael Davids is an American Indian citizen of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of the Mohican Nation. He is a concert and film composer while also operating the music company he founded, Blue Butterfly Group (BBG). Davids holds a Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s degree from Arizona State University in music composition.
