New Classical Featured Artist 3/30/20 – 4/5/20.
As we wrap up our Women’s History Month programming, we feature music this week by composer and vocalist Hanna Benn. Benn’s multi-disciplinary approach has incorporated dance, opera, and theatre — submerging boundaries and discovering new sonic landscapes in the process. With origins rooted in gospel and choral music, Benn began exploring music as both an intimate and collective experience at an early age. Her wide range of influences include Stravinsky, English pastoral music, R&B, Alice Coltrane, and Olivier Messiaen.
All the music you’ll hear by Benn this week come from her album titled “Divide.” In it, she deconstructs multiple distinct genres and combines them in a unified way.
