Since the dawn of time musicians have been writing music about love. In honor of Valentine’s Day this week’s playlist features classical music about love. There will be classics like the suite from Sergei Prokofiev’s “Love for Three Oranges,” and new works like Christopher Cerrone’s “I Will Learn to Love a Person.” Although most of the selections are about romantic love, a few feature love between friends and family.
The last segment is a historical journey through music inspired by one of the most famous love stories of all time: Romeo and Juliet. We begin in the early nineteenth century with the “Love Scene” from Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Dramatique, Romeo and Juliet and end with a selection from Craig Armstrong’s score for the 1996 film version.
