April is jazz appreciation month. To celebrate, this week’s stream is all about jazz music in its many forms. In the first segment we’ll hear classic jazz from some of the greats including Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Billie Holiday. The second segment features local jazz and jazz crossover artists past and present, including long-time professor at IU Bloomington, David Baker, and living Indianapolis based artists Timothy Gondola, Jared Thompson, Mina Keohane, and others. The final segment explores the legacy of jazz with many different jazz-influenced works including classic symphonic jazz from composers such as George Gershwin and Aaron Copland, classical works reimagined in a jazz style (and vice versa), and some jazz fusion works from groups such as Stella Soul and Middle Eastern composer Anouar Brahem. You won’t want to miss this unique streaming experience.
