March 8th is international Women’s Day. In celebration, this week’s playlist features all works by women composers including a special interview with cellist Juliana Soltis where she talks about her album American Woman, the works and composers on it, and some of her thoughts on performance and new/lost music. You can catch that interview starting at 12am, 8am, and 4pm daily through Thursday.
The stream features the works of American Woman, a historical look at some woman composers including Clara Schumann, Barbara Strozzi, Lili Boulanger, and Billie Holiday; and works by living woman composers including Chen Yi, Missy Mazzoli, Julie Giroux, and Libby Larsen.
More about Juliana: Acclaimed cellist Juliana Soltis specializes in sharing the forgotten and untold stories of classical music. Her latest album from PARMA Recordings, AMERICAN WOMAN, has already garnered international attention for its exploration of the lost legacy of America’s women composers, including a silver medal at the Global Music Awards and a coveted four-star rating from the BBC. When not on the road or in the recording studio, Juliana makes her home in Richmond, Virginia’s historic Church Hill neighborhood, where she attempts to garden and caters to the every whim of her retired racing greyhounds.
