Classical Music Indy has a rich history of commissions from local composers. This week we’re streaming those commissions from the Micro Compositions Projects, CMI City Sounds, and Arts in the Park. The featured work is the new “Solidarity Symphony” from Jorge Muñiz, a professor of music, composition, and theory at Indiana University South Bend. This work premiered with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra on February 1, 2025 and was made possible by a generous grant from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation. Tune in for an interview with Muñiz where he discusses his inspiration for the work, the commissioning process, and his composition process.
The rest of the stream considers music by Indiana composers and conductors, including the former artists in residence with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Time for Three, among others. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating local music this week!
