February is Black History Month. To celebrate, this week’s playlist features works by Black composers. The first two segments put the “history” in Black History Month, going all the way back to the 18th century with music of Joseph Bologna, Chevalier de Sainte-Georges. In these segments, you’ll hear works by Margaret Bonds, Duke Ellington, William Grant Still, and others, working all the way through composers that lived into the early 2000s such as Zenobia Powell Perry and George Walker.
The final segment features works by living black composers including Terence Blanchard, Nkeiru Okoye, Adolphus Hailstork, Billy Childs, Jessie Montgomery, and many more.
