Local Classical Featured Artist – 10/12/20-11/1/20
This week, we partner with our friends at Dance Kaleidoscope to feature music by Giacomo Puccini. Dance Kaleidoscope, Indiana’s longest-dancing professional contemporary dance company since 1972, is celebrating its 49th season this year. Dance Kaleidescope’s team of choreographers explore the limits of the human body as a means of expression. Through movement, their dances paint landscapes of the soul revealing the full spectrum of human emotions.
Born in Lucca, Italy, in 1858 Giacomo Puccini was the sixth of nine children of Michele Puccini and Albina Magi. The Puccini family was established in Lucca as a local musical dynasty by Puccini’s great-great-grandfather – also named Giacomo. This first Giacomo Puccini was the first of four generations of Puccinis to serve as maestro di cappella of the Cattedrale di San Martino in Lucca. The younger Giacomo, by contrast, made is career in the world of secular music, especially opera.
