High School (Grades 9-12)

Discussion Guides

NOTE Discussion Guide

This guide is intended for students in grades 6-12 who are in the early stages of their musical studies. The experience outlined below will introduce them to basic concepts and vocabulary as they explore four closely related American musical genres, blues, jazz, rhythm & blues, and hip hop. Content is presented in 2 or 3 sessions, each broken into smaller 10 to 15-minute segments designed to allow students to listen and respond to the music they hear. Each session features brief suggested selections from a Playbill that can be accessed via a link in the PDF.

Learning Modules

Playlist Host

Playlist Host is a real-world learning experience that teaches musicology skills and media production. The main objective is to create a playlist of voice-overs and music. Students prepare a one-hour playlist for national distribution on Classical Music Indy’s 24/7 music streaming service.

At the end of the course, send your playlist to Classical Music Indy’s streaming host, Salvador Perez Lopez, for review.

For more information about Classical Music Indy’s learning modules, please contact Eric Salazar.
