Featured Artist 2/10/20 – 2/16/20.
We continue our Black History Month programming this week with our featured artist, soprano Angela Brown. Born in Indianapolis, Brown has led a world-renowned career as a vocal soloist. Her highly successful Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Aida captured instant attention from international print and broadcast media and catapulted Angela onto the world’s prestigious opera and symphonic stages. Ms. Brown received the inaugural Herman C. Hudson Alumni Award from the Indiana University African American Arts Institute in 2006, given annually to recognize outstanding contributions made in the arts by former members of the Institute. Her most recent endeavor is launching Morning Brown, Inc., a nonprofit with the mission of bridging the gap between accessible, live-music programs and underserved individuals, schools, and communities, and she keeps a connection to her hometown with regular performances with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Opera, or to sing the national anthem for the Colts, Pacers, and Indy Eleven. Brown is a member of the Indianapolis Public Schools hall of fame and is featured in the book “Nineteen Stars of Indiana,” by Michael S. Maurer. She is also a proud recipient of the Indiana University Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the Governor’s Arts Award from the Governor of Indiana, and a Spirit of the Prairie Award from Conner Prairie.
Connect with CMI Streaming’s Local Classical channel for performances by Angela Brown and other local artists.
